Question from a reader: Does acupuncture help tinnitus and hearing loss? One year ago I had symptoms of a sinus infection and woke up with blocked hearing. As the day went on it was better in the right ear but still blocked in the left. I went to an ENT who said it was nerve damage and that I have mild hearing loss. Now I have a constant ringing and moderate hearing loss. An MRI confirmed there is no tumor. I wondering if acupuncture would help me?
Answer: I’m sorry that you’re experiencing hearing loss due to nerve damage and tinnitus. It is possible that acupuncture, and perhaps Chinese herbs, could help with your nerve damage and tinnitus. It is certainly not something I, or anyone else could guarantee, but I think it would be worth doing a course of treatment to see if it is effective for you.
Tinnitus can be difficult to treat, but I have seen it treated successfully with acupuncture & Chinese herbs. In this case, success usually means improved symptomology rather than a total cure. Generally, with nerve damage, the more recent the damage, the more effective the treatment. Often people don’t seek treatment until years after the damage was done and this becomes more challenging to treat effectively.
I wish you the best of luck!
